Kelly Burchfield

Arthur Gonzalez

Arthur attended graduate school on California and finished up his collecting of artistic influence in New York, with a few years enjoying those Georgia peaches.  Arthur expertly combines sculpture with found objects to create disturbingly dark pieces. The raw imprecise surfaces of his pieces are designed to make you feel an impression rather than a thought. He does not create pieces to be pretty and placed on a shelf; his pieces are meant to be gazed upon with a mind open to the experience of contemplative art.  Arthur’s piece “Stinger” is a combination of ceramic, glass, and a metal tray. The severed decaying head provide served up on a platter provides a morbid atmosphere and intense feelings of wonder in the observer. The long Pinocchio style nose leads the observer to believe that perhaps the head was severed because of lies.
